Overview
Use Windows display controls to detect a connected external monitor and select the correct projection mode. These checks help distinguish a Windows display-setting problem from a cable, port, adapter, or monitor problem.
Troubleshooting Checklist
- Save open work and confirm you are working on the intended device.
- On your Windows computer, press `Win + P` and try cycling through different projection modes (e.g., Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only). Then, open Display Settings (Right-click desktop > Display settings), scroll down, and click 'Detect' under the 'Multiple displays' section.
- Record what changed and return to the workflow before making additional changes.
Common Indicators
- The monitor has power but does not appear in Windows Display settings.
- Windows shows only the built-in display.
- The monitor displays no image after being connected.
- The image appears only after changing the Windows projection mode.
